What Is the 2022 Scheme?

The 2022 scheme refers to the revised curriculum framework adopted by Karnataka state engineering colleges affiliated to the university system for students who enrolled from the 2022–23 academic year onwards. The scheme was designed to bring the curriculum in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and industry expectations — emphasizing outcome-based education, greater flexibility, and stronger focus on professional skill development alongside theoretical knowledge.

The 2022 scheme replaces the earlier 2018 scheme and represents one of the most comprehensive curriculum overhauls in recent years. Students who enrolled before 2022 continue under the older scheme; students who enrolled from 2022 onward are covered by the new one.

Semester Structure

The B.Tech program under the 2022 scheme spans 8 semesters over 4 years. The KA CSE 2022 Study Guide app covers the core 5 semesters (Sem 3 to Sem 7) where all 37 theory subjects are concentrated. The structure across those semesters is:

CSE Subjects Overview

The Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) branch under the 2022 scheme includes 37 theory subjects spread across 5 semesters (Sem 3 to Sem 7). These span a wide range of domains:

SemesterKey CSE Subjects
Sem 3Mathematics for CS, Digital Design & Computer Organization, Operating Systems, Data Structures & Applications, OOP with Java/C++ (Elective)
Sem 4Analysis & Design of Algorithms, Microcontrollers, DBMS, Discrete Math / Graph Theory / Optimization / Linear Algebra (Electives), Green IT / Capacity Planning / UI-UX (Electives)
Sem 5Software Engineering & Project Management, Computer Networks, Theory of Computation, Environmental Studies, Computer Graphics / AI / Unix / Distributed Systems (Electives)
Sem 6Cloud Computing, Machine Learning, AI / Blockchain / Computer Vision / Compiler Design / Advanced Java / Intro DS / Fundamentals of OS / Mobile App Dev (Electives)
Sem 7IoT, Parallel Computing, Cryptography & Network Security

Exam Pattern

Under the 2022 scheme, the end-semester examination (ESE) is conducted for 100 marks and is 3 hours long. The question paper is typically structured as follows:

The pass mark is 40 out of 100 in the end-semester exam. Students must also satisfy the minimum marks criteria in the internal assessment (IA) to be eligible to write the ESE.

Exam Strategy

Since Part B carries 80% of the marks and has internal choice, focus your deep preparation on mastering 3 to 4 questions per module rather than trying to cover every topic equally. Choose the option you are most confident about — do not switch mid-answer.

Internal Assessment

Internal assessment (IA) under the 2022 scheme is worth 50 marks per subject, conducted through the college. This typically comprises:

Students often underestimate IA marks. The 50 IA marks are added to the 100 ESE marks for the final grade calculation. A strong IA score significantly reduces the pressure on the end-semester exam.

How the KA CSE 2022 Study Guide App Maps to This Curriculum

The KA CSE 2022 Study Guide app was built specifically to align with the Karnataka 2022 scheme CSE curriculum. It covers all 37 theory subjects across Sem 3 to Sem 7, with content organized by module — matching the five-module structure of each syllabus.

For each topic within each module, the app provides:

Note

The app covers all 37 theory subjects across Sem 3 to Sem 7 of the CSE branch under the Karnataka 2022 scheme. Lab subjects, mini-projects, and internship components are not covered, as these require hands-on institutional participation.
